The three-day event is jointly orginized by the Georgian National Competition Agency, the National Bank of Georgia, the National Energy and Water Supply Regulatory Commission of Georgia, the State Insurance Supervision Service of Georgia and the Communications Commission.

The conference will be opened by leaders of international organizations that headed the directions of competition and consumer rights protection: William Kovacic, Global Competition Professor of Law and Policy at University of Washington, Director of the Competition Law Center, former Head of the US Federal Trade Commission; Teresa Moreira,  the Head of the Competition and Consumer Policies Branch at the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD); Ori Schwartz, the Head of the OECD Competition Division.

A special panel is planned with the participation of the Heads of five Regulatory Bodies, where the results, achievements, and challenges in the direction of competition and protection of consumer rights will be presented.

Over 20 delegations from different countries will participate in the conference. Among them, representatives of Counterpart Authorities, Local and International Experts, representatives of Public Agencies, Regulatory Bodies, Academia and Business Sector. UNCTAD session on consumer rights protection and OCED session on competition policy will be held. To strengthen mutual cooperation, a memorandum signing ceremony will be held between counterpart authorities.

Mechanisms of competition law and consumer protection, activities implemented by regulatory bodies will be discussed at the event. In parallel thematic sessions, participants will discuss the following main issues: competition policy and sustainable development, regulated markets and inter-agency cooperation; trade policy and indirect mechanisms supporting competition; Current trends and key challenges in the consumer rights protection - experience of Georgia and European countries; effective mechanisms of concentration control; Agreements restricting competition, effective detection and prevention mechanisms, etc.

The goal of the annual conference on “Competition and Consumer Protection” is to strengthen the competition policy in Georgia and improve consumer rights mechanisms.
